We were tasked to select one brand and its Identify a problem, conceptualise and design an integrated digital campaign for our chosen brand and identified problem.
I chose oxford dictionaries as my brand and adult illiteracy as my problem. Illiterate people around the world are isolated from their loved ones and technology, due to their inability to read and navigate phone ui.
The objective of this brief was to design a phone app that would solve our chosen problem relative to our chosen brand. In my case I needed to design an app or ui that would not only help illiterate adults navigate technology but also teach them to read and communicate digitally.
Using pictorgraphics aka emojis as a form of nuanced communication that allows illiterate adults to communicate with their loved ones, as well as have access to fundimental tools such as calenders and reminders, phone contacts, music, cellphone torch, sms and a text scanner.
Using nuanced emji communication. iMoji designed for you.
There are currently over 2 million illiterate adults in South Africa, who are unable to keep in contact with their loved ones or employers due to their inability to use mobile technology. When interviewed, majority of illiterate adults said they would like to be able to use phones and that the most important apps they would need would be a calander, phone, sms, maps and a torch.
iMoji makes use of emojis, voice and illustative videos to enable illiterate adults to unitlise and navigate our ui. Our design is kept as simple and minimal as possible in order to elimiate complexity and confusion. Our ui also enables our users to learn words with the ability to see it written and hear it read out loud. We have added a bonus text scanner feature that will allow our users to interact more with society as they will be able to scan posters, letters and notices and have it read out loud to them, enabling adults with children to better engage with their childrens’ schooling.
iMoji has a special keyboard designed with thousands of emojis in order to effectively communiate through pictographics. All incoming text messages are converted to both emojis and audio for our user to be able to understand. They then have the option of either recording a voice note which gets converted into text or they can select their desired emojis in response.
Our entire UI is made up of pictures and emojis, forgoing all written words like back, next, contact and so forth. iMoji's design is kept as simple and minimal as possible in order to elimiate complexity and confusion. Our ui also enables our users to learn words with the ability to see it written and hear it read out loud, all while being accompanied by descriptive emojis.
We have added a bonus text scanner feature that will allow our users to interact more with society as they will be able to scan posters, letters and notices and have it read out loud to them. This will enable illterate adults with children to better engage with teachers and homework.
